Crash Course in Floortime

Want to learn how to do floortime with your child?  I found this great little summary of the program online.  http://www.polyxo.com/floortime/buildingplaypartnerships.html.  It's pretty much a summary from Greenspan's book, "The Child with Special Needs."  I really liked how quickly it could explain the perspective and the things that might help as you work with a child.

Enjoy!

Circles of Communication

I found this explanation of "circles of communication" and thought it was just wonderful.  I think learning how to identify circles of communication with kiddos is one way to really work for and track their progress.  Beautiful explanation!

D.I.R./Floortime Summary

DIR is a Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based philosophy to teaching children.

D (Developmental) refers to understanding where a child is developmentally and helping him/her master developmental milestones which result in healthy emotional and intellectual growth.

I (Individual Differences) describes the unique biologically-based ways a child responds to, takes in, comprehends, and regulates sensations in the world around them (touch, planning, sequencing, sound, etc.)

R (Relationship-Based) means that a child learns through meaningful, trusting and learning relationships with caregivers, educators, therapists and others that tailor their interactions to affect and influence a child’s life.

Floortime is a piece of the D.I.R. framework and is a specific technique used to help a child further develop and achieve greater mastery of social, emotional and intellectual capacities.
